Events

Smallholders Association events (SHA) are held monthly at Ruishton Village Hall, Cheats Road, Ruishton, Taunton TA3 5JD at 7.45 pm for 8.00 pm unless otherwise stated. (OS Grid ref: ST 267 249)
Entry is free to members. Visitors are most welcome although we do make a charge of £2.00.

Further events are arranged by the Cheddar Langport and West Somerset Groups
All SHA members are most welcome to attend any of the group meetings
For other events see LINKS page

It is intended to have a Smallholders Stand at many of the summer agricultural shows - this is dependent upon smallholders coming forward to man the stand and also supplying produce and crafts to sell, even if you cannot attend. Good photographs related to smallholding, advertisements for your business and other promotional literature are also useful and attract visitors to our stands.

Andrew Hall will be available to speak on the subject of SOIL STRUCTURE & basing his talk on soil profiles specific to Somerset.  He is keen for any members attending the meeting to bring any soil samples from their gardens/allotments/smallholdings for analysis

The following excerpt is taken from Andrew Hall's web profile on the Hall & Duck Trust website

Since boyhood Andrew has been interested in gardens and collecting. On leaving school he gained an apprenticeship is horticulture with Sheffield's Parks Department and also received training in botany while working at the City's Botanical Gardens. Following his training in horticulture, Andrew formed his own landscaping business and became a lecturer in horticulture at a further education college in Sheffield.

Collecting was always in his blood and it was not long before the clanking noise was coming from the shed at the bottom of his garden! Andrew has an uncontrollable appetite for collecting and it does not stop at lawn mowers. Another main interest is to collect, identify, press and mount examples of British flora and grass species.

He also serves on the South West Committee of the Institute of Groundsmanship and has been a guest lecturer for the Department of Landscape Technology at Springfield Technical Community College, Springfield MA, USA since 1999.
